Startup Sidekick: Building and Maintaining Culture on Remote Teams

I was really excited to chat with longtime friend and serial entrepreneur, Anil Hemrajani, about building culture as a remote team on his Startup Sidekick podcast.

In addition to the myriad of resources Modus Create has been cranking out since the onset of the COVID crisis (working from home with kids, transitioning to a remote workforce, remote team resources, and more), it was great to discuss more than the logistics side of remote, and dive into some of our lessons learned for building and supporting high performing teams:

  • How “core engineering” culture supports getting work done
  • How welcoming and celebration routines take on new meaning and significance in a remote only team
  • How work itself is also speech
  • The importance of cultural artifacts in a remote team: laptop stickers, tshirts, and other items that reinforce a sense of belonging
